Serial Production of PV Power Plants for Installation in Railway Tracks
QFAB.SOLAR
Qfab Solar GmbH develops production solutions for the series manufacturing and assembly of PV power plants as well as for their safe and efficient installation in existing track infrastructure. The goal is the construction of track-integrated PV power plants. Serial prefabrication and assembly processes make it possible to significantly reduce manufacturing costs per installed kilowatt-peak and to improve quality assurance.
prefabPV
The prefabPV project focuses on the research and development of a semi-automated manufacturing and assembly system for PV power plants. The envisaged prefabrication principle makes it possible to pre-produce PV power plant modules ready for installation, transport them efficiently and lay them modularly on site — or, if required, dismantle them mechanically. Compared with previous, predominantly manual installation methods, this approach opens up new potential, particularly with regard to scalability, cost-effectiveness and process reliability.
By 2027, the manufacturing and assembly concepts developed in the prefabPV project are to be further tested by means of pilot plants and prepared for broader application. From 2026, test plants will be installed in the Rhenish mining district (Rheinisches Revier). A demonstrator plant that has been installed in secondary tracks for more than three years has successfully shown that track-integrated PV power plants can indeed be operated productively in this application environment.
